Remembrance

£500.00

Emotional Hoops is a series of ten pieces in varying sizes, each one exploring the world of crewel embroidery through the very different language of glass.

I've always been drawn to embroidery — to the rhythm of it, the patience, the way texture and colour build slowly into something rich and alive. These pieces began as an attempt to understand that through my own medium: to find in glass something of the same tactile pleasure, the same quiet intensity.

Where Tenacity is bold and warm, Remembrance is quieter — though no less rich for that.

The glass here is handmade white flashed glass, a material with a softness and depth that feels exactly right for this piece. Worked with pink and blue enamel, the scaled-up embroidery forms have a delicacy to them — an air of something carefully tended, carefully kept.

The title came naturally. There is something about the act of embroidery itself — the slow, devoted repetition of it — that has always carried a quality of remembrance. Of hands that stitched before us. Of things made to last and to be passed on.

This is a piece that sits quietly and asks nothing of you — until you find yourself returning to it.

Painted and enamelled handmade flashed glass, polished and patinated steel hoop ready to hang. 20cm diameter.
