Emotional Hoops is a series of ten pieces in varying sizes, each one exploring the world of crewel embroidery through the very different language of glass.

I've always been drawn to embroidery — to the rhythm of it, the patience, the way texture and colour build slowly into something rich and alive. These pieces began as an attempt to understand that through my own medium: to find in glass something of the same tactile pleasure, the same quiet intensity.

There is a particular pleasure in rich blue glass — the way it holds light, the depth you can lose yourself in. Discovery begins there, with a beautiful piece of handmade blue flashed glass as its foundation, and builds outward into something genuinely joyful.

Pink and blue enamel, yellow staining, and the familiar scaled-up embroidery forms combine here with an energy that feels almost playful — colour finding colour, detail layering into detail, the whole thing opening up the longer you look at it.

The name feels right. This is a piece about the pleasure of looking closely, of finding more than you expected. It's a piece that rewards time. The detail unfolds gradually — colour shifting with the light, surfaces revealing their texture slowly, the way a piece of hand-stitched work does when you finally hold it close.

Painted, enamelled and stained handmade flashed glass, polished and patinated steel hoop ready to hang. 20cm Diameter.
