Emotional Hoops is a series of ten pieces in varying sizes, each one exploring the world of crewel embroidery through the very different language of glass.
I've always been drawn to embroidery — to the rhythm of it, the patience, the way texture and colour build slowly into something rich and alive. These pieces began as an attempt to understand that through my own medium: to find in glass something of the same tactile pleasure, the same quiet intensity.
Some pieces announce themselves quietly. Playful does not. The glass here is a rich, handmade gold-pink — a colour that seems to generate its own warmth, as though the light is coming from within rather than passing through.
Yellow stain deepens and varies the surface, the embroidery forms dancing across it with an looseness and ease that earns the title entirely. The combinations of form and colour allow a wealth of detail to unfold inspired by the rich hand-stitched surfaces and textures resulting in a gorgeous tactile object.
