Emotional Hoops is a series of ten pieces in varying sizes, each one exploring the world of crewel embroidery through the very different language of glass.
I've always been drawn to embroidery — to the rhythm of it, the patience, the way texture and colour build slowly into something rich and alive. These pieces began as an attempt to understand that through my own medium: to find in glass something of the same tactile pleasure, the same quiet intensity.
Of all the pieces in the series, this is perhaps the most tender.
The forms here are unfurling — new growth caught at that precise moment before it has fully opened, still gathering itself, still becoming. Greens, blues, and soft pinks float within a sea of semi-opalescent white glass that gives the whole composition a quality of early morning light, of something held gently in suspension.
Notes of yellow and pink move through the surface quietly, adding warmth without disturbing the stillness.
There is something in the nature of embroidery — and of glass — that understands hope. Both are acts of patience. Both ask you to trust that the thing you are making, stitch by stitch or mark by mark, will eventually become itself.
